  • More than one chocolate bar a day (and only after we’d had fruit and a yoghurt)
  • More than one fizzy drink a day (and it was only ever lemonade, not coke)

Other than that, I don’t think that there was anything that we weren’t ‘allowed’ to have. We didn’t have much money, so there were lots of things (new consoles, football kits, my own television etc) that we just couldn’t have at all anyway.

Ha, actual tv as opposed to DiS tv :grinning:

Toy dog poo

Anything with Monosodium Glutamate in it. Think my Mum read it gave you cancer once or something so she blanket banned it.

Practically speaking this just meant we weren’t allowed to have most of the best crisps. Usually ended up with a bag of Salt ‘n’ Shake in my lunchbox as a result.

Oh and Mortal Kombat 3 for Christmas '95 because my Dad thought it was too violent. Still fucked off with him about that. Really fucked off.

FINISH HIM!

Haha!

Do you remember the big controversy about the death moves? They look so naff now

we were denied Scalextric too - on account of how expensive it was

then some cousins grew out of theirs & we inherited a big bastard old Silverstone circuit with formula one cars from the 70s replete with their John Player Special, Benson & Hedges, Rothmans & Marlboro logos (long since banned)

ANIMALITY!

Yeah sort of. My old man used read the Telegraph in the 90s and absorbed all sorts of moral panics. Like got well into the whole video nasties shiz after James Bulger’s killing and all that.

I’d forgotten all about Video Nasties… I was fascinated by them. I seem to remember EastEnders having a Video Nasties storyline for a bit.

My mum threw out my sister’ one of these because she thought it looked like an aborted foetus.

That can’t have been good for your sister’s self-esteem.

I did have a matchbox race and chase. Can’t remember if I asked for that, or it I asked for something else, or if it was just a suprise

It was awesome though - jumps! u-turns! lights!

She didn’t say what it looked like at the time, it was one of those things that came out years down the line.
