Thats the best bit probably

Only just realised what you meant

Yeah I live in Fallowfield :frowning:

The Font in Fallowfield is better than the Chorlton one

As someone who works and has lived there +6 years I agree. It’s gone downhill sharply in recent times.

The Gardens area has always been horrible but now even Market Street has gone from overcrowded and annoying to cesspool of pure fucking scummishness. Shops that have shut down have been replaced by Poundlands or congregations of alcoholics and the shoppers seem to worse than ever.

I think the trend is that the centre becomes too crowded/ expensive/ whatever and the areas on the fringes start to become decent and get investment (NQ, Anocoats, Spinningfields, that new Granada development). Maybe all city centres are like this I don’t really go anywhere else tbh.

smoggy is definitely the word.
manchester is ok but not that pretty imo

Manchester is the most overrated city in Uk, probably Europe. It’s bizarre. Cultureless shithole.

Aye it’s fucking shite

it definitely is. nearly went in there today

See, I’ve recently warmed to Piccadilly Garden over summer, after seeing lots of people sit around there. It’s quite nice, but obviously not as good as it should/could be. Used to absolutely despise it. It being bordered by Byron, Cafe Nero, etc. spoils it the most imo.

Market St is a place with no redeeming features though.

Didnt we see you or your doppleganger in there once?

i think you did see me, but didnt sat hi RUDE

I’m annoyed at bird saying my joke was poor taste

This reads like a thread from the Birmingham forum on skyscrapercity.

Manchester is a bit shit though.

20 years ago and no-one died. People joke about 9/11 ffs. Fuck off bird.

They’re quite nice yeah. Wigan’s got the same fucking generic indoor mall thing that everywhere has now though. Used to quite like The Galleries. Quite like the bit where if you turn right near Wetherspoons there’s that Wiend bar and the John Bull pub etc.

Market Street is a fucking armpit. Why are there always thousands of people there? There aren’t any shops worth going in apart from Tescos and Holland & Barrats and sometimes Boots. When we was teenagers we used to go and wind up the shouty Christians for like hours, they’d always take us on as well, losers. Then go to Affleks Palace for a bit and then sit on the grass outside the Cathedral (which, as previous mentioned, is a lovely place), halcyon days.

Christmas Markets in Manchester are the worst, most wretched thing in the entire universe. All of them total shite and massively expensive and take up loads of space, but loads of morons flock to them and essentially render the city centre a no-go zone for all of December, when Konichiwa_Bitches has work there![quote=“tricklenipple, post:36, topic:5726”]
coming from bolton anything nicer than an old closed soviet mining city is an improvement though tbf.

Bolton town centre has seemed nice to me whenever I’ve been.

Yeah Market Street is horrid, as is Picc Gardens, but there is plenty of culture about.

I left Manchester today and the things I’ll miss most are Grand Central rock pub, vinyl exchange, frequent gigs and the geese that hang out down the canal by ancoats.

Yeah the christmas market - utter, utter shit. Exists solely for people to wear woolly hats and gloves and take a selfie with their partner/mate drinking mulled wine.

You know what I’ve always wanted? One of those extremely unique, cute and authentic handmade rabbits that look like they’re made from twigs.

I did get an absolutely boss pair of woolly mittens from there about 6 years ago though. As much as a terrible bastard those markets are, I think all the aggro and grief they’ve caused me (which is a lot), may be balanced out by the mittens.

I really can’t overstate how great those mittens are.

Being from Wigan and living in Manchester I’d say Wigan town centre is better than Piccadilly Gardens, but definitely shit compared to Manchester city centre.
