After arguing with some dickheads with a Stalin flag at the Durham Miners Gala, I’ve found that weird Stalin-revisionism and Holodomor denial is actually fairly widespread in some far left circles.

Just pretty disheartening and depressing all-round.

Think I’ve watched ‘Miracle’ about 10 times. its shit, but I like the subject matter. (communists playing Ice hockey)

Fetisov’s quite a good interviewee. It’s insane how dominant they were. Won 13 successive European Cups, and 13 successive titles. Knowing what we know about Soviet sport around that time they might’ve been, y’know, on the ol’ Spanish gear, but the footage of them playing is absolutely incredible.

On this subject, can anyone recommend a good and dense book on 20th century Russian history?

Realised after watching Death Of Stalin I’m actually fairly ignorant on stuff post-Revolution, and academically only know a lot of it with a Ukrainian focus. (Plus I’ve already forgotten everything from A-Level)

Got a free audible token so would be useful to have it in their library
