What’s up here? I seemingly can still post and stuff? Is it bc I used up all my likes yesterday?
I’m getting this too, sporadically. Hasn’t affected me using the site though
When I went to post this thread I was briefly told I couldn’t, and then it posted
No I’m getting the same message
My guess is that it means someone’s making admin changes to the site so posting gets disabled while those changes are being applied.
Bannered Act!
That was so tense
I’m gonna have to find a way to explain to my team tomorrow why I got so much work done today
I think the reason was so that Theo’s post claiming nobody knows what shape Ukraine is could stay up uncommented on for a couple of hours.
I like the way this thread now makes it look like the site was down for 5 years
Me refreshing it every few minutes until I could finally reply here
Idk but I’m guessing it was unplanned because I have a vague memory from ages ago of a thread being pinned giving a couple of days notice of a planned outage
I was thinking it might be useful to have somewhere to go for a “yes it’s down for everyone, yes discourse have been made aware” kind of message, but as it’s probably @sean who liaises with discourse maybe it could just go on the main DiS twitter account? Obviously that’s dependent on Sean actually being aware, which he may not have been as the site was only down for a few hours.
I hid here. Got lonely.
Apparently it was due to a hardware failure on the machine which hosts our primary database, according to Discourse. When this sort of thing happens it is 99.9% of the time something to do with Discourse such as updates or technical glitches like this one – which to me is reassuring because they have a solid and professional team to look into it and sort it out. They often announce bigger issues on their own twitter, but nothing was there this time around.
Thanks for the update. Wasn’t anything on their status Twitter either.
These things are quite rare and they’ve clearly had an issue they’re fixing (could be related to all the storms?)
Tbf, it hardly ever happens and I don’t have direct contact with them unless it’s down for a few hours. I think they’re also on US west coast time so I wouldn’t have heard from anyone until gone 5pm I suspect anyway.
