I love the character development over the last 20 years e.g. when hes on local radio in MMM doing phone ins and playing 80s pop etc he’s more comfortable in his own skin

But when he has a guest on, has to talk about news and current affairs, speaks to someone who can help his career, feels undermined, and now being back on the BBC he gets v nervous and insecure.

Yeah, I think that’s it. On This Time, they are giving us a bit of both, so the contrast is very immediate. I’m hoping that as the series goes on, there will be increasing off air tension, and he’ll start to lose it completely when he’s off air, then need to slip back into presenter mode.

Feels a bit early to be picking it apart and making definitive judgements on comedy

It really made me laugh - Fleabag series 2 episode 1 was fucking amazing though

Agree about Fleabag that hit the ground running last night can’t wait for the rest. Bet Claire is having an affair in Sweden.

I found the first episode a bit forced. Cheers.

“WHY haven’t you got a Sky Atlantic subscription Alan!!?”

Definitely, though Waitrose…

Surely I’m not the only one who was almost missing the main action through waiting for the inevitable tweet action?

Also recommend going back and reading the Radio Times entries for John’s programmes.

Still a bit over the top at times like the opening monologue, in that Alpha Papa sort of way, but mostly v good this week. Getting used to the disorientating format now and Alan’s settling in. Enjoyed the anagram bit.

Also liked the ending a lot as Alan is always entertaining when he’s getting his own back.

Needless to say he had the last laugh

I think for me one of the things I always find enjoyable about Partridge programmes is they seem to have a high proportion of “explosive laugh” moments, when he says or does something instantaneously outrageously amusing (aka usually massively offensive). There’ve been a few of those in these first two episodes. I’m enjoying it. The “Clunt” joke is still top of my list though, but I’m a child.

Feel a bit sad that people have been mentioning Simon Farnaby without referencing that he literally stumbled into being part of discovering the remains of a King of England in a Leicester car park.

It doesn’t get much more Partridge than that.

I like the way he speaks when he’s doing tv work, like the long wordy scripted bits to camera about things. That’s one of my favourite Alan Partridge things.

I quite enjoyed the OTT war re-enactment to be fair.

I enjoyed his views on the Peasants Revolt.

The re-enactment was a bit silly but I can imagine him insisting on doing it like that.
