SFI is shit, I quit on day 3. SvA is a totally different level and, like I say, they give you a little test when you apply so you know what level you’re at. You’ve been here a few years, it’ll suit you well

anyone got tips for where to find non-english language novels?

thought amazon would be have plently but maybe i’m just crap at searching. none in the usual bookshops from what i can see either.

if i want books in norwegian do i have to buy them from a norwegian bookshop?

Is it physical books you are after or e-books?

either!

Amazon (UK) does have some Norwegian stuff for Kindle, but it is not a great selection. Not sure if they are planning to launch Amazon Norway any time soon (they recently launched in Sweden as a separate franchise).

With Swedish stuff I buy epub files from a site called Bokus and then send to Kindle. I guess you would need to find the Norwegian equivalent. I also have a (crap) Swedish dictionary installed, which means i can press any unfamiliar word and get the translation. This is really useful when it works, which is about 1 in 4 times.

I guess these are the Norwegian classics - Elektroniske publikasjoner - epub.no: Gratis norske ebøker

I tried reading some old Swedish stuff, soon binned that off though!

even though I’m bilingual, I like to pretend that I don’t speak the language sometimes to get out of situations:

  • yes
  • no

Idk, have definitely pretended not to be foreign sometimes when in the UK just to not do the full Q&A sesh though (only with people I don’t have any real interest in talking to obviously)

pretended I didn’t speak Spanish yesterday because I couldn’t be fucked dealing with some bloke who wanted to rent a parking space in the apartment garage. said ‘oh my spanish is very poor sorry’ in perfect Spanish, realized what I’d done, and then said something totally incorrect to throw him off. :sunglasses:

I want to know what your other languages are, bilingual buddies!!

Absolutely don’t know, but I’m obviously happy to recommend some titles if you do find somewhere!

French and (Brazilian) Portuguese! Then I tried to learn German but hit a wall, plus bits of French are already starting to leak out of my brain through lack of practice

Anyone got any tips on talking to a bilingual child?

Specifically one who is old enough to speak, but not old enough to realise they’re talking two different languages. Obviously I try to talk back in their primary language but I’m very bad a languages.

what age are we talking here? 2 and a half or something like that?
