I think people probably naturally accumulate possessions over the course of their life, and if there isn’t an apparatus set up to mitigate this, then everything should be returned at the end of life.

But not all personal (not real) property is fungible. Some objects have significant cultural value which depends on the context in which they are used and circulated.
