should there be a cut off point age wise for voting or participating in the state maybe?

No, don’t think I’d agree with that…don’t think age is necessarily a barrier to compassion (even if there is a negative correlation).

Chuka Umunna’s column about this yesterday was full of such utter guff that you have to wonder at his ability to do even the most simple tasks.

don’t think it would necessarily be about compassion but about engagement with or ability to change views. People seemto be willing to do near enough anything to keep intact their sense of self and their core values, must be harder the more of these get built up.

legal only if cash is converted into doubloons, buried on an island, and you have the map tattooed onto you with an x marking the spot where it’s buried.

in the short term, yes, as long as money isn’t siphoned from welfare (which is what they’ll do anyway).

I keep seeing these advertised on TV in the run up to Christmas:

Cozmo

At £199 rrp, I would hope that they could certainly perform Chuka’s job tbh tbf…

I think that is a fair point and surely self-preservation is part of everybody’s motivation to some extent (probably to an unnecessarily high degree for many). Just not sure about the idea of taking agency away from older people…who are already pretty de-humanised and marginalised members of society.

to clarify, I think Universal Basic Income could be a cynical play to further privatise basic services but yeah. in theory not a bad idea.

maybe if more value/focus/education was placed on helping the next generation rather than the current one then everyone could feel productive and valuable all throughout their lives as there is always something to contribute there.
