Just now I was listening to Some Things Last a Long Time by Daniel Johnston with headphones on, and I forgot about the distorted guitar in the left channel that kicks in around the minute mark and it made me jump.
This morning I came back from a run with earphones on, and hadn’t noticed my wife was standing a couple of metres away from me. As I took my earphones off, she shouted “OLA” and it made me jump.
Last week I was standing in front of the washing machine and I stepped on a squeaky floorboard (I don’t think it used to be squeaky) and I jumped and let out a little yelp.
I’m a very jumpy person. Once tried to play the first level of Doom 3 at uni and my friends were pissing themselves at my full body convulsions when something popped out and spooked me.
Happens every time I go to the barbers, especially if I’m getting the works done and he’s off to the back of the room getting a hot towel or whatever. Will always jump when he comes back even if I know he’s coming, sometimes if I SEE him coming. It’s absolutely pathetic.
