I have zero hope of Green Man going ahead at the moment. Just don’t see large gatherings which require police/ambulances going ahead.

Yeah, if this lockdown works, the rest of the year will all be about trying to stop new peaks and I’m afraid ‘no large gatherings’ will have to be a part of that.

There’s also a good chance we’ll see some sort of on-off lockdowns and I can’t see how festivals can cope with that sort of uncertainty.

After the cancellations of Glastonbury, British Summer Time and The Great Escape, I still have EOTR, Primavera Sound and Le Guess Who? going ahead but will be stunned if any of them actually take place.

They’ve not even announced the second wave of acts. They know it won’t be going ahead.

Would love it if Le Guess Who could but yeah it’s looking increasingly likely that it won’t, and with other controls having different lockdown measures it’ll probably make it harder for them than most festivals

Still got my fingers crossed for this, all the restrictions being lifted and a massive fucking blowout to celebrate. But yeah, all the models predict a big old second wave in November, don’t they?

All summer/autumn festivals will inevitably be cancelled unfortunately.

Sort of repeating my post up thread. I’d be surprised if there were any gigs happening this year. I can see non-essential shops reopening on the downwards of the curve where individual shops can limit the number of people and control their distancing like supermarkets do currently.

Not sure how a gig would be possible though. Too dangerous. Even a hypothetical situation where Brixton Academy was allowed to announce a concert where the number of tickets on sale would only be half of the capacity and only one ticket on sale per person/household. Friends would buy one each and a bunch of them would hang around each other the whole night. Would a limited capacity concert even be vaguely financially viable?

I’m a big gig go-er but also work in The NHS; not frontline but laboratory based. I won’t be too depressingly brutal here with what I’m seeing but so many previous healthy individuals of all ages are being hit hard by Covid-19.

I’d love gigs and concerts to start again; it’s part of my general lifestyle but am happy to see them put off as long as necessary to protect us all.

I think you’re right. To a large extent this whole year will be written off - not just gigs/festivals but all social gatherings imaginable.

Unless universal testing is introduced I just can’t see how lockdown restrictions will be eased without the risk of a second wave of infections.

Grace Jones’ Meltdown is now June 2021

ArcTanGent are currently doing 20% off tickets, which seems an odd strategy.

Are they? 2000trees are but I can’t see ATG’s discount on their twitter or website

Hmm, I might be getting them confused again.

I’ve paid full price for ATG so was just checking! (unlikely to go ahead though obvs)

One theory is the Government will initially allow gathering of less than, say, 400 people, and this could be a massive boost for small independent venues who are currently in a very difficult financial position. We could see acts playing venues which are too small for them because they have no other option.

But then I read an article the other day which said sweaty indoor gigs with everyone in close proximity to each other, shouting in each others ears etc, is a sure fire way for the virus to transmit from one person to another.

ATG and 2000 Trees always do a couple of 20% off sales in the months before the festivals, so this isn’t out of character, but they do seem desperate to get some cash in.

Hmmm, I definitely read a post by ATG on Facebook today about the discount, but it seems to have been taken down (it was full of comments saying 'come on guys this ain’t happening).

Earlier on in all this I was thinking “I can’t wait til gigs are up and running again”. Going to concerts is my biggest pastime and has been for 30 years. However now I’m seriously wondering why anyone would want to be in that situation any time soon or perhaps ever again. It hasn’t taken long for the idea of being in close physical proximity to a stranger to feel utterly alien.

As said upthread I can’t see it happening much this year, although all those free gigs various artists are doing for NHS workers are in October so I dunno
