Hopefully you know what I mean: chunky chords, clever licks, not complicated, and if the band’s not considered uncool right now they almost certainly were at one stage, and are probably associated with lots of denim and/or leather.

Are we talking NWOBHM? Or more American hair metal bands who were bigger a bit later in the 80s like Motley Crue, Poison etc? And even Guns N Roses could be adjacent to the latter kinda thing, even though they distanced themselves from it and saw themselves as a much harder band.

The bands are not silly it’s the music normally my mates would call it big dumb rock but that term is one of those that people have called out as ableist and fair enough. While I might use it in a reply I definitely don’t feel right about using it in a title.
I don’t have a manual here mate but you’re listening to classic G’n’R it’s going in this thread (anything after Use Your Illusion belongs in a thread about listening to bands after their sell by).
If you’re listening to Nevermind, it’s going in this thread, whereas In Utereo is too sophisticated.
I reckon for sure a bit of early Def Lepard can go in here? There’s a line somewhere between hard rock and metal, and the former comes in here.

Listening to Led Zeppelin IV while I clean up from dinner to work out if it’s good bad or dull.
Got through the first 5 tracks. Black Dog, Rock and Rolland Misty Mountain Top bang. The Battle of Evermore has some nice guitar work but not really much else.
Stairway to Heaven is…well I really like the middle bit that starts up with “If there’s a bushall…” and the big riffage/rhythm under his screaming in the final bit but otherwise it’s just nowt much.
Led Zep are possibly the most overrated band: feel like they went so quickly from massive to a couple of big songs being known to just a band no one really even thinks about listening to.
