I don’t hate this quite as much as I thought I was going to hate it. The pre release tracks have all grown on me to one degree or another.

Its not even that the music individually awful, but the album is basically the same monotonous blob for 1hr 20

Fir as bland as the last record was the first single was a standout, I dont think the new record even has that

The drip feed has killed my enthusiasm, would have been really excited if this album had dropped without knowing what it’d be like

Just giving it a listen. A few of the songs sound decent, and better than most of the last album. It’s so one paced though. I thought that listening to the preview tracks - they mostly start out promisingly, then just keep doing the same thing for 3 minutes until they peter out. Not sure I’ll make it to the end of a whole double album of this.

When Anno Satana came on after Ramona I was starting to quite enjoy it, but Wyttch is virtually unlistenable and it hasn’t picked up again.

I gave up during Birch Grove. Just couldn’t listen to any more. Only Wrath stood out as not unilaterally awful and didn’t make me want to reach for the skip button. But Ramona sank any miniscule amount of good will Wrath accrued and I limped on for another couple of songs before chucking in the towel.

So I put on ‘Adore’ instead and feel much happier now.

Gotta join the pile in for this. I love pre split pumpkins and there are tracks post reformation that I like… this however is dog shit.

I like it, but it’s too long and there are some really annoying bits, like, I wish he could identify what’s on the tree, rather than listing out the options like that.

Don’t even think the songs sound all the same either. Pretty sure if this was anyone other than Smashing Pumpkins people would be less imediately dismissive. It IS too long though.

people seem to actually be deducting points for the length which seems odd to me, there is good stuff here that doesnt get negated by there being too much filler, also can’t really identify what the filler is, it is all pretty consistent if I like one song I like most of them, just a fairly solid album of good ish music, it is too long but that is more my problem than the album

It’s always the case though. on the whole, people prefer to digest songs in a more focussed way. A 12 song album followed by an 8 song companion ep would always me my preference in these instances.
