If weezer released the equivalent album people would be over the moon

Zeitgeist and Oceania were top 5 rock albums of their respective years. Oceania maybe even the best.

Wasn’t it released in 2012? I thought you were really into Alcest - surely you don’t think Oceania is better than Voyages de L’Ame?

2012 is a tough one. it was very much a “before and after” type year for me so it’s hard to compare great ones I found later (METZ, Alcest, Twilight Sad) to the ones soundtracking the year (Oceania, Trail of the Dead, Beach House, Grizzly Bear, etc). A lot from that year has lost its impact over time but Oceania isn’t one of those, I still love it. Both are great albums.

Quite. A band with a couple of half decent attepts at making their first album again after like 20 + years, go and dump this: https://riverscuomo.com/demos <---- actual centuries of demos on the internet and the Weezer thread be like, yeah, there’s gold in this.

Weird flex suggesting people would go gaga for a Weezer synth pop album full of middling music

Any band making a double album faces an uphill battle as its often seen as a STATEMENT and bands are then expected to justify the fact they decided to make a double album

I mean lets see famously forgiving Weezer fanbase defend their worst albums

Against the MEANIES that always want to take Billy down a peg

Exactly, they scored the White album almost as high as Adore.

It’d be ludicrous if Adore wasn’t as long as it was

Billy even just made fun of someone on Instagram who said Wyttch is his best song since Glissandra.

We are never, ever going to agree on this. Those albums were pish.

Some albums need to be long and Adore is one of them. Cutting anything would diminish its impact. Think there’s a better case for making it even longer by actually having Blissed and Gone close it instead of 17 hinting at the melody.

don’t really see it as a big statement double album, haven’t seen it pushed in that way, isn’t very long, not even split into two halves, it is just lots of concise songs. can understand if there was loads of filler that should have made the cut, but its all pretty much the same ok-ish level, to me it makes no sense to like something less for having too much, those songs might be someone else’s favourite, or might grow on me one day, as far as i’m concerned if there are enough songs I like to make it a 4/5 it is a 4/5 more songs don’t dilute that score for me

more is more I say

Blissed & Gone is one of my favourite SP tracks.

Yeah, we probably won’t agree. I’m not going to pretend they’d fit in among the original run, but I think if a new band had released them without expectations they’d be viewed more fondly in general. I get that they’re not for everyone though, I just don’t understand the level of vitriol they’ve accumulated.

what era is soot and stars from?

It’s still a stretch when presented as evidence that Weezer fans aren’t famously defensive.

i’m not going anywhere near those demos, given that band so many chances
