Happy New Year from next to my son’s bed where I’m waiting for him to go to sleep (we woke our three up so that they could see in New Year with us for the first time but are now paying the price). He doesn’t like the howling wind outside and wanted company!

Happy New Year all. Went to an all-ages alcohol-free beachside event in Napier, with a covers band.

Back to our Air BnB and joined the well-off, 50-60 something owners and their guests. Talked about our disappointment at the version of Jolene played by the covers band.

One of the guests mentioned he’d heard this interesting version of Jolene recently - ‘have you heard of this band, the White Stripes?’. [I’m kicking myself for not asking him if he’s heard of Sting].

Spent today busing back to Wellington - I can recommend early on NY Day as a great time to travel.
