Thread for streaming services that aren't s**tify (rolling)

Mainly just want somewhere I can moan about Tidal tbh. Really annoying how they’ve added an extra useless page of search that you have to click through before you can find what you want.

What bounce services u using hun? And do they actually work?

I am on Apple MusicBook. No issues other than they don’t have podcasts.

…which is kind of ironic given that the main directory of searchable podcasts is hosted and served free of charge by… Apple.

Amazon Music Unlimited and it’s bollocks but I’m currently on a free 3 month deal so mustn’t grumble. If Spotify could finally get around to releasing their lossless HiFi tier I think it’ll be game over for everyone else - it was supposed to be launched in 2021.

Haven’t used it for ages but deezer always used to be good.

Don’t really have any issues with Tidal though tbh so will stick with it for now.

Apple lifer here

Been on Apple for about 3 years, had a few glitchy problems back at the start but generally runs pretty well now

Tbh I think I prefer having my podcasts in a separate app

Downside is I’ve had to change podcast apps twice in the last couple of years because they keep shutting them down

On YouTube Music as it’s free with YouTube Premium and I watch a lot of YouTube and have android devices.

It’s fine.

I have youtube premium but never tried the music app. I guess I could, but I probably willn’t.

The number of ads I’m getting on youtube these days is seriously making me consider getting premium, could do that and use the music app I guess but don’t really want to leave Apple

There is an Apple Podcasts app but it seems to be only usable on iPhones. But Apple Music isn’t. Very confusing.

I had to quit Apple Music because it just stopped working on my Android phone. Shame as it had been great until then. Might have been an android or my phone problem but result was the same.

Mentioned before, but a couple of years ago I set up a Plex server and got the PlexAmp app for my phone and just stream my own MP3s and am very happy. Can’t stand services that try to help you find things / direct you to monetised-advertising content.

(That said, Plex itself is becoming very annoying in trying to add stuff you haven’t got into searches and trying to build up a community when you just want to enjoy your own stuff).

Apple Music has a globally-known glitch where streaming lossless will cause songs to skip at a frequency that borders on unlistenable. It’s a real problem via Sonos, which streams the highest-available quality by default, and AFAIK Apple have never formally acknowledged it.

Considering moving to Amazon, which has noticeably better quality on many albums but has that awful 360 audio feature in place of atmos for many albums. It’s so frustrating how much different the ‘same’ album or track can sound across the various platforms

Anyone looking for high quality streaming at lossless levels should have a look at Qobuz.
I’ve been using it for a year now. I’ll go into more detail later.
