This song isn’t weird, but it is a bit quirky. I used to sing this at school in elementary school, drove my teacher nuts. One day she came in and told me that her daughter had played it for her on a cassette (wow this was a while ago), and she couldn’t believe it was a real song. She thought I had just been a hyper 1st grader making shit up.

Going to go through this thread properly when I get the chance as I’ve really only just started to discover 80s stuff.

I was a kid in the 80s so I just know so much of the chart stuff through osmosis but always kind of rejected that era because I hated that mainstream stuff so much at the time (I still do mainly but I appreciate some of it more now for what it is) and also the main critically acclaimed stuff doesn’t do a lot for me but i think there’s a whole world of uncovered gems from that era that are emerging via streaming etc.

I gushed about it before but a compilation came out last year by Michele Mercure - basically home made 80s electronica only ever released on tape and I just think it’s ace.

Loads more too obviously but I need to check what you guys are all putting up.

Wasn’t this where Bucks Fizz tried to go a bit ‘sexier’ and it just sort of jarred with their family friendly image?

The Romantics version is pretty great - sounds straight out of a John Hughes movie.
