It’ll definitely need longer if the dough has any sort of solid particles in it. Also wholemeal/granary needs more water.

Yeah the program was 5 hours instead of 4.

Yup that’s what I use. I notice if I haven’t baked for a while with an open tin then I definitely get less satisfactory results. But if you’re using them up in a few weeks then I doubt it’s a problem.

The other possibility is definitely that the machine doesn’t bake hot enough.

I’m using the same yeast. Exactly the same, great white loafs, disappointing granary.

not entirely sure what it’s called but it has really interesting recipes in it, a couple for beer and mustard bread, which is why i bought it! i’ll take a photo later.

It’s funny how sometimes it can look a total shocker and then actually taste lovely

the fuck?

is this the case on Panasonic ones?!

I’m almost certain I can do a timed wholemeal loaf in ours (Panasonic SD-2501WXC)

I’m outraged.

The booklet only mentions it can’t be used for fastbake, yogurt and jam.

I AM SO IRKED

I mean I don’t really enjoy wholemeal bread all that often, and can always make it the night before but FUCKING HELL, it doesn’t say that in the instructions!!!

No, I can put a delay on the wholemeal.

I use the same and found the same too. I keep mine in the fridge and that seems to help

Hmm that’s quite an obvious solution isn’t it…

Actually this reminds me. Just about every baking book you get will say “If possible use fresh yeast”. They then go on to say that since we don’t have a big tradition of home bread-making in the UK it’s hard to find, but that health food shops and “some” large supermarkets will sell it, and then go on to say that your friendly local baker will give you some, as may the bakers in the supermarket.

I can’t recall ever having seen fresh yeast for sale anywhere around here, and I’m too scared to ask the baker for some. Does anyone here cook with fresh, and where do you get it from?

i also keep mine in the fridge

I have done, I bought it online from Shipton mill. Definitely a nicer flavour, but I’ve not bought it again, so i guess not nicer enough to make up for it going off quickly
