11
Beastie Boys / Run DMC
Suicidal Tendencies
Michael Jackson

(Pretty sure I had one album by each and these were the only records I owned. The Beasties / Run DMC was a blank tape a pal made for me)

14
Prince (loved him ever since – he’s my favourite)
Pixies
Mudhoney (all the grunge stuff really)

17
Wu-Tang
Slint
Crück (obscure Japanese hardcore band that I was totally obsessed with despite only having a few tracks on a comp. tape)

20
Daft Punk
Outkast
Aphex Twin

23
Stereolab
Bjork
MF Doom

(Dunno really tho tbh - quite difficult to remember what I was listening to at age 23)

11 - Sum 41, Motorhead, Bad Religion

14 - REM, Black Flag, Ramones

17 - Velvet Underground, The Smiths, Bright Eyes

20 - Elliott Smith, Misfits, Neutral Milk Hotel

17

music was seriously tribal when I was growing up. It was almost like you were only allowed to like one band.

doesn’t seem to be like that at all now, which seems like a good thing.

14 - Radiohead, DOOM, Arcade Fire
17 - Radiohead, Wu Tang, Erykah Badu
20 - Neil Young, Nina Simone, Aphex Twin
23 - Talking Heads, The Fall, Nina Simone

11:
Blondie
Bob Marley
The Beatles

14:
The Smiths
New Order
Cocteau Twins (might have been 15 when I got obsessed with them)

17:
The Smiths
Prince
Jesus and Mary Chain

20:
REM
Pixies
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

23:
REM
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Pavement

I don’t think these are very representative of the music I actually listened to - I’ve never spent masses of time just listening to my ‘favourites’ and my listening as a whole has always been much more varied than this would suggest.
