I have the mono cd set but I managed to get most of the vinyl 2nd hand without spending craaazy money. Nothing super mint, paid £50 for a 2nd press of revolver and £30 for a mono SP

My White Album is a 2nd hand reissue as I couldn’t find an affordable original in mono that was worth owning

This is the thing that I find most difficult about even the really good mixes - Giles Martin’s recent work for example, which is generally fantastic - but the drum kit often sounds like it’s sitting in the corner of the room, and not in a good way.

One of those situations where having a super-modern single-speaker setup (e.g. sonos, google home etc) actually suits the music better.

This is a super-dumb question reading it back but when you listen to a mono mix on headphones, do you simply get the same mix in both ears? Does that not sound kind of weird?

I don’t actually use headphones to listen to records or cds much. Although I recently bought an extension cable to make it easier and have been doing it more for late night listening. Maybe I’ll do some Beatles later

I’ve listened to loads of classic Phil Spector productions on headphones when I think about it though and they are all mono so I guess it’s fine

It’s fine. Have a listen to Pet Sounds on Spotify. There’s a version with it all in original mono then one straight after in blasphemous stereo

a firm but gentle wiggling can help - normally takes a few times for it to relax enough.

Or a suitable sized pencil in there with some gentle movement - you don’t want to make it too big.

What day is it again?

This is usually what I do - once you’re onto the round, unsharpened section of the pencil the centre hole should be big enough. Never used to have this problem until I got my new turntable!
