Ooooh, it’s a migraine. That’s what’s happening.

Good.

One of my mates flew home from Las Vegas! Fucking incredible.

might take a little bit of thinking/researching first but this is not a bad idea

Great stuff! :+1:

I find it helpful to instead blame the person you’re having the conversation with

Do you need to secure funding before you write PhD proposals in non-STEM? (assuming its non-stem, apologies if not), or can you just write em, send them in and get funding/ a place based on the idea/ your skills and experiences. Cos if so, thats really cool.

I remember writing my PhD proposal - 3 months after I already started the PhD, having to shoehorn in everything my supervisors wanted and it was rubs

ha thanks, moral support is always appreciated. I have been vaguely considering it for awhile.

wow, how come?

Ah, so everyone in the entire world is terrible except for me? This is a good way of putting a positive spin on it.

Fantastic word, going to try and use it

Hey @anon82218317 and @doubleespresso the government have recently introduced student loans for PhDs. Just for your FYI.

I hope to do mine in Europe where the university employs you and pays you a wage. That’s the dream!

Thanks, but that shipped sailed! (I already finished my PhD(!) + and was lucky enough to be fully funded for tuition+ stipend for its duration)

Yeah, Europes higher degrees are just so much more geared towards functional, transferable ends, rather than all the weird box ticking, criteria fulfilling reports and papers we have here

What are you planning on doing for your PhD?

damn wasn’t voting for what I thought, no idea what I actually voted for! oops

Oh that’s cool. Did you enjoy doing your PhD? Are you glad you did it? I have friends who found it really challenging - more so than expected but it seems to be more the relationships with supervisors than the actual research.

I’m a career coach and my main research interest at the moment is the link between careers and mental health. I’m trying to decide whether to focus on career decision-making or unemployment. I’m also really interested in gender and feminism and how this relates to careers. I’ve given myself until the end of this year to decide which path to pursue and then hopefully apply to start in September 2019.

I know this wasn’t directed at me, but:

No

Absolutely

This is more important than the actual topic imo, and is something you should be very careful about when selecting.
