That new contract he signed under Moyes didn’t increase his salary but did increase his income from his image rights based on our commercial deals. I genuinely don’t think it’s inconceivable that part of that agreement was an arrangement that his commercial viability wouldn’t be hampered by being dropped or something.
The Rooney situation is funny because he’s essentially a trophy player now, yet he has no distinguishable ‘trophy’ qualities, just a potato with legs.
