Have you never seen Nielsen fight a bear in Day of the Animals?
Trying to defeat a bear using a bear hug is the ultimate baller move.
Also I’m pretty sure Vince McMahon stole his onscreen persona from watching the campfire monologue.
Ryan Gosling in Drive maybe?
Yeah I was spending a listless Saturday afternoon on the sofa years ago and an episode of Columbo came on and I was like “yeah, fuck it” and Leslie Neilsen rocks up in it playing it straight. Genuinely confused the life out of me because I was waiting for him to start quipping the shit out of the place any second. Think he might’ve got bumped off early doors in it. I can’t remember. Either way it was odd.
Is Ralph Fiennes doing comedic roles considered against type any more? Either way he’s always an absolute delight (In Bruges, Grand Budapest Hotel, A Bigger Splash etc.)
Jim Carrey in Perfect Sunshine
In think I spent my 1st night away from home for uni trying and failing to watch this by waggling my aerial about
I did not make it as far as the bear wrestling scene
What was his type before Drive?
Wesley Snipes in the criminally underseen To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar
(very good)
He’d already done Truman Show and Man on the Moon by then.
I don’t blame you - it looks god awful. I’ve only seen the Nielsen vs Bear battle and I intend to keep it that way.
schwarzenegger tackling the role of a patriotic hero forced to abandon his ideals (predator)
Franck LeBouef in Theory of Everything
Nah, he’d been in Half Nelson, Blue Valentine and Lars & The Real Girl before Drive, and had been in a few (bad) movies where he was a creepy.mute killer before.
He did the (terrible) Only God Forgives after as well.
The Notebook?
the fella who played Doug in Flight of the Conchords and Gale in Breaking Bad is now a sweary smart-talkin’ business LAD in that show Billions. impossible to take seriously (not helped by the fact that Billions is Very Bad)
Macauley Culkin in Party Monster
When I beat all of REM at backgammon I was playing against stipe
he seems to be cropping up in everything
i quite like Billions though it is daft
