They only approved Modena and AZ last month and have had supply chain issues with Pfizer.
Apparently nobody is listening to my brilliant idea of just cancelling them and giving Tokyo 2024, Paris 2028 etc.
^this.
Japan only approves vaccines after they have been trialled on Japanese people, so they are several months behind the other countries where the vaccines were trialled, or where they have an approvals process that lets them use data from overseas.
I believe there’s some incredibly boring problem with this about contracts having been signed etc.
BREAKING NEWS
No crowds at all for this year’s Olympics
I’ll obvs still watch but feel bad for the athletes. Lots of them sort of feed off crowd energy or being in a space that feels competitive, I guess. Doing it in a draughty stadium like a training session will be so disappointing.
Interesting to see if they’ll put crowd noise over it on TV or just have it as a tumbleweed.
High jumpers and long jumpers are always trying to get the crowd going.
Never thought I’d say this but I think they need to bin it off
Really shit for the competitor’s, that. But frankly, I’d rather the sporting event went ahead and the althetes got to compete than the whole thing get delayed again, frankly. And yes, I know that that is quite selfish.
I don’t think it’s selfish at all.
If (IF!) an event can be practicably held that’s safe for athletes and officials and support staff, then the athletes deserve a chance to do their thing.
No crowds is a huge downer, but it’s not about them.
If I have a misgiving, it’s that this is potentially another layer of ‘it’s fine’, on top of all manner of other events that are arguably giving us a distraction from it really not being fine.
I dunno. For all that the Olympics are shadowed by unsavoury corporate shenanigans they’re an undeniably uplifting event that puts the whole world on a kinda sorta common ground. And don’t we need a little bit of that more than ever?
I remember doing a primary school project on Seoul 88. After a turbulent period of boycotts, “Except for seven countries, all countries around the world participated, marking the Seoul Olympics as a symbolic event that laid the groundwork for the end of the Cold War.” It’s pretty special, man. We should cherish what we can salvage from our circumstances.
Well, this sounds a bit shit

Has long as the horse dancing is live and uninterrupted, I don’t care
250 of those hours dedicated to chit-chat with Clare Balding
With carlton commentating
Dream world
I’m now imagining Carlton commentating on the 100m final
Keep seeing references to Carlton and thinking Vanessa.
“Running my way downtown
Sprinting fast, faces pass and I’m homebound”
Keep it that way, it’s far more joyous
Eurosport coverage (of anything) is generally pretty good and well produced but it’s a shame it’s paywalled. Subscriptions aren’t particularly expensive compared to sky, if there was some sort of competent government in place maybe they could have subsidised it somehow with vouchers or offers? idk. Still not ideal.
However- I knew about this years ago, didn’t they announce it shortly after Rio? To some complaint iirc, but nothing significant.
