I got my licence at 17, although it took three tests to get me there. Over the next three decades I have owned precisely one car, which I made one journey in, from my uncle’s who was handing it down to me to my parents’ house where it stayed until I got someone to take it away (It didn’t work very well).

My dad’s written off three cars and drives like a nutjob. If I got the chance to scare him as a passenger I would consider it sweet sweet payback.

I remember completely tensing up and feeling exhausted and achey after every lesson. The instructor used to tell me off for not leaning back in the seat.

Last summer I drove my dad, in his car, from Paris to Lillle with him navigating. Complete disaster.

Someone had an actual full blown panic attack in my car the other week. We hadn’t even left the car park.

Admittedly it was because a few years ago she was in a near-fatal car accident, but still.

Oh god… my dad is very nervous about driving anyway. He’s an excellent driver himself but he really freaks out about me getting in the car with literally anyone, even now. I was avoiding telling him I’m getting a lift up tomorrow. He seemed to take it pretty well, after I repeatedly told him how long my friend has been driving, how nice her car is and that my bf will be there too :smiley: he insisted I sit in the back.

Remember my instructor being a complete knob. He used to get so exasperated if you didn’t get something after a couple of tries he’d go bright red, start breathing heavily, and basically not speak to you for 5 mins until he’d calmed down.

I’m probably going to learn this year. I’m 45.

I got my restricted license back in my 20s, but then never used it - literally haven’t driven since, so I’m going to start from scratch.

Your lesson prices look insanely low - New Zealand prices (from the AA) are $75/sesh; that’s nearly 40 quid.

(my first test was fun - guy came at me the wrong way down a tiny one-way street. Other guy went racing through an intersection after I’d stopped, given way, waited, waited - and then as soon as I started he appeared from nowhere. The cop failed me, because clearly both of these were my fault).

I’m going to learn next year and I’m pretty excited by the prospect. Will finally be able to visit all the archaeological sites I read about in college but never got to visit. Am not letting my Dad ANYWHERE near the car as I know what he’s like and he’d just be giving out to be solid for the entire time he’d be in the car.

I never learned because I walk everywhere. Even if my mates lived in the next village six miles away i’d still walk to them. Live in the city centre now and walk to work as well. It has been an annoyance as a musician when I couldn’t bring amps to gigs myself so I want to get it sorted for that reason.

I nearly fell asleep at the wheel during one of my lessons as I’d taken the wrong hayfever tablet by accident which makes me zzzzz. Was good bants, my instructor made me pull over so he could drive me home

Also twatted his car into a curb being an arrogant 18 year old when it was prretty much brand new and broke some suspension thingy that cost loads to fix. Felt a bit bad about that.

I had a car after for a bit then sold it living in cities (and it spectacularly failed the MOT) but I did a refresher lesson the other week as I’m hiring a car on holiday in Jan and I was shitting it but it was 100% fine. Was a nice surprise.

Oh yeah, so moral of the story, if you do learn, try and drive after because otherwise I’m not sure you get enough practice to keep that muscle memory of how to do it all etc blah blah blah
