The game I saw was the most insane experience of my life

I can confirm that the game we went to instead in Brescia was not the most insane thing I’ve ever done. Still annoyed about the whole thing!

*More for the occasion (Spurs Arsenal semi final) ground is a shithole obv

Never actually saw any football at the Stadio Olimpico btw but got tear gassed trying to sneak in to an abandoned Rome derby with a load of Ultras.

1 and 5 are for atmosphere reasons, 2 because it my favourite sporting place in the world, 3 because of the thrill of seeing Italian ultras hurling themselves at each other, 4 because it’s a nice enough stadium.

Yes!!

I live overlooking it, so I thought I ought to include it

So many lovely sunny days watching Sussex down there. Always try to get on the chairs on the north of the ground. Dunno why. Must be great to live overlooking that. Shame Sussex have been shit this season mind.

Would have chosen Arundel, but it’s not really a stadia, just a grass bowl.

It is! Don’t get to watch as much as I would like due to 4 year olds not being interested in cricket, but the general hum of a cricket pitch all year round is wonderful, groundskeepers, tractors, ripples of applause, thwack of leather on willow echoing in the late sunlight, bloody hell is that Alistair Cook, that kind of thing. And the concerts. And the fireworks. We’re moving soon, gonna massively miss it

I’m only counting ones where I’ve seen a match/event:

  1. Anfield
  2. London Olympic Stadium (less for the stadium and more for the event - the World Championships on the final relay session)
  3. London Velodrome
  4. The Oval
  5. Rose Bowl, Pasadena

Tours that are also worth doing:
Wimbledon
Montreal olympic stadium and pool
Nou Camp

Yeah, those obstructed views arent just in the away end! I’ve sat in them when they’re all that’s left, but a girder blocking one of the goals or sitting towards the back of lower bullens where the stand above means you can’t see the ball above head height…for a whole £1 less…is pretty rubbish.

Worst: MetLife, Wembley, Stamford Bridge

  1. Highbury
  2. De Meer
  3. Olympisch Stadion
  4. Johan Cruijff ArenA
  5. Emirates Stadium

Oh, I forgot to mention the Meiji Jingu baseball ground, but a big part of that is the atmosphere, too.

Worst for me are Pride Park, Riverside, Stadium Of Light, the Reebok. All feel like the exact same (characterless) stadium to me.

  • Claggan Park, Fort William. Huge mountain and stunning scenery.
  • Fenway, Boston. Just a mass of bits and pieces dropped onto an area of Boston. Loads of history.
  • Globen Arena, Stockholm. Because it looks like the Deathstar!
  • The Greenyards, Melrose. More nice hills, pleasant scenery.
  • Kuressaare linnastaadion, Estonia. Can’t imagine it with anything other than lovely early evening light.

Special mentions:

  • Pittodrie. Field of (broken) dreams.
  • London Velodrome. For a few minutes it had the best atmosphere of any sporting event I’d been to.

I am now!

thought I’d been to more than that

I couldn’t care less about tennis but the Wimbledon tour is great. I begrudged the price at first but it was well worth it - I was there for over three hours including the museum afterwards. :+1:
