Crushing display this early in the tour

Sigh. I think this kind of domination is way better to read about retrospectively than live through.

What I cling to in Pogacar-era is that my formative years saw lots of cat and mouse in early mountain stages before an attempt at a decisive blow. Pog really is special - I remember Pantani standing out for his aggression - but I’ve never seen someone so confidently aggressive as Pogacar. He goes for the jugular and he goes for it as early as he can. It’s soul destroying to the spectacle if you like nail biting close run-things, but simply wow. The direct comparison I can think of is Michael Schumacher in his pomp, making everyone else look mere mortals. It is only captivating if you just marvel at how different class he is and unabashed in demonstrating that at any opportunity.

He really could and should go for the calendar year triple of grand tours.

If you just pretend the end of the stage happens at 60km to go that makes it a lot more exciting.

can see him finishing the tour in 4th but not 3rd

Eddy Merckx…34 wins in 6 years!!

I can see him level third at this rate.

Only 5 stages away. I’d say that’s eminently possible on this form

if you ever get the chance to go to the Pyrenees, Tourmalet, Aspin etc - Do not skip the Cirque de Gavarnie, whether cycling or otherwise.

Reckon it’s by far the most spectacular and imposing physical landscape i’ve seen in France, it’s hard to describe. More impressive than mont blanc, all the other hills, that big viaduct, everything. It’s stunning

he may or may not be doped up, but even without drugs he’d be minutes ahead. even a gallon of epo doesn’t make you 3 minutes faster than Jonas and remco on a single stage

battle for 3rd place could be the most exciting real quiz of the year

I’m a bit sceptical but mostly bored by the dominance. Day 6 and the race is over. But I dont think any doping program is going to result in 70km/h average to take 40s on a descent. He’s just too good.
