Toxic Town (Netflix)

Anyone watching this (according to the Guardian) “just about bearable” new Netflix drama?

It’s about my hometown and it’s talk of the (toxic) town, very excited to get stuck in tonight. Can’t wait to get angry about the inaccuracies, especially the accents. Although Brendan Coyle is in it and he’s a Corbyite so he should nail it at least.

Dunno if the show will be any good but the true story is very interesting and deserves to be told. Has been described as the Erin Brokovich of the UK.

They got the drinks right at least…

It’s okay

Everyone is doing a different accent though, that’s annoying. Whittaker’s is best.

Didn’t know about the case - it is properly shocking stuff isn’t it. Absolutely mad it was only the 90s.

It’s horrendous, and I think it goes way deeper too. Eg. I know a girl who had Hodgkins Lymphoma who found many, many others with the same thing, all the same age and all living within a square mile of each other. Could be a coincidence but it’s on the estate where I grew up, pretty close to the steelworks site.

that Jack Thorne writes a lot

Thought the first two episodes were excellent, last two were fine.

The first scene at Shelby’s grave fucking ruined me, especially after having watched Severence the night before

Aimee Lou Wood is properly great.

He can’t stop! He’s quite good at it though

Watched this over the weekend. Accents aside, it is very good. Jodie Whittaker is as good as ever, as are all of the mothers. Stephen McMillan is one to watch as well - excellent as the incorruptible council member.
It’s not quite as monumental as Mr Bates vs The Post Office but very much in that vein. Was also reminded of Red Riding with the boys-club corruption in the local council.
Recommended.
