As a result (I suspect) of growing up with rave music, some of my favourite tracks are those that essentially loop and build and fall back and build again. Then repeat all that.
I’d love to have more examples, but some of my key ones…
Obviously LCD nail this vibe and All My Friends is just them firing on all cylinders.
Early Liars gem. The same groove for 30 mins. Beastie Boys vs drone.
Sigur Ros but heavier (a cliched, nationality leaning comparison). Solstafir do this at least in part on most tracks. But on I Myself… they just nail it.
Think I came across this when shuffling through Four Tet’s long running playlist one day, and found this to be quite a singular experience, a very long and repetitive song but I enjoyed it all the more for that. Might loop it on repeat for the rest of the weekend actually.
This is the real “early constellation records endlessly repeating” track for me:
After about six minutes it descend into two chiming notes which then repeat for ten minutes. It’s by Fly Pan Am and the whole record is great and full of instrumental repetition.
