Another vote for Davidoff Dawlish line. At a few points it was basically the only thing that I looked forward to about going back to uni :frowning: also when you’re going from Cornwall to London, the bit after Reading where it goes from ‘barely moving for 3+ hours’ to ‘HERE WE FUCKING GO!!’ Speedy Gonzales mode is completely thrilling (or maybe that’s how unbelievably boring Cornwall is).

Berlin to Prague is a nice journey.

Have heard good things about Moscow to Saint Petersburg? Should be doing that later this year.

I travelled the Indian-Pacific 4,500km from Sydney to Perth back in the 00s, which is a great trip. Obviously the centre of Australia has a fairly large dose of nothing, which makes the journey extra hypnotic.

Best stop was at Cook, population 2. It used to a be a fully populated town, complete with hospital and airstrip but is now a nicely eerie ghost town. The train basically just stops to fill up on water and for passengers to stretch their legs. You can literally just walk into abandoned houses/businesses like you were in Silent Hill. Don’t want to miss the train leaving however as you are in the middle of the desert and there are only three per week…

When I was a kid I had a young person’s railcard which allowed me to upgrade myself and two friends to first class for very little extra. It was always fun to see the guard come in to first class and see us scruffy leather jacketed herberts, thinking he’s got a score for his card. The disappointment in his face when he saw our tickets and realised that we were all legal and above board was a sight to see.
