Miniatur Wunderland is one of the best touristy things I’ve ever done, it is sensational. I couldn’t get over the scale of it, it’s so impressive.

Sitting on the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh line with my iPod might be my favourite thing in the world. (It’s as pretty as the West Highland line but with less wanker tourists.)

It’s on my list.

A couple of weeks I got the train and bus to work for a week which I thoroughly enjoyed instead of being in traffic. I keep thinking about getting rid of the car and sticking with public transport.

On Tuesday though it was the complete opposite, the train didn’t move for 20 minutes getting to work. That evening I went out, and it took me 2.5 hours to get from Canons Park to Caterham. I’m absolutely shattered at the moment, so I’ve driven the last couple of days to have an extra half hour in bed.

This weekend I’m going up to Doncaster and Leeds. I’m looking forward to the train journey for that.

one of the worst things about smartphones is the urge to always be doing something whilst on a train - I remember trips to uni where for 3+ hours I would just listen to music and look out the window with no distractions

I don’t like the London Penzance route on the whole but it’s good somewhere around Devon where you go into the ocean.

I thought about going to Manchester this Saturday, going to that DiS gig, and then getting the TransPennine to Doncaster for the football on Sunday. But I already had plans for Saturday night. I should cancelled my plans and done it.

Dawlish - that’s a great piece of line. Except when it falls into the sea.

Dawlish/Teignmouth. It’s the best bit. Especially if you’re on it when the waves break over the train.

That happened to me once. Had to get the bus about 4 times within 20 miles get back on track

As a very tall gentleman, I much prefer train journeys than any other. More legroom (sometimes), the option to get up and have a stretch or a walk about. Also train beers and the chance to do all the puzzles in the newspaper.

Please keep all filth in filth thread.

Trying to jam ‘Miniatur Wunderland’ into this but it’s just not working.

Best train journey I’ve ever been on was the high-speed train from Madrid to Barcelona. Bag of cans, iPod on, just started out the window for a few hours. One of the most relaxing journeys of my life.

I went across the US on a couple of Amtraks about 18 months ago. They’re great, so comfortable, So much room, Well cooked food, decent beer.

The 30-odd hours almost felt shorter than some 3 hours trips to London I’ve had. And wasn’t much more expensive

I’d like to do a Michael Portillo train adventure.

Fort William to Glasgow is an absolutely spectacular train journey. Few cans and some Boards of Canada on the iPod. Transcendental, maaan.

Am seriously considering doing the Penzance - Aberdeen Cross Country route in its entirety over the summer.

The East Coast main line up to Edinburgh is really nice too, once you get past Newcastle
