When would you expect to see updated timetables? As assume it’ll impact the days around
Normally about a week before isn’t it? Strike day is a Saturday, so the next day is a late start anyway, might just be a case of things wrapping up a bit early on the Friday night.
Might adjust plans, need to do Worcester to Portsmouth to get across to Isle of Wight
Southern and Southwestern aren’t involved so the Portsmouth end of things should be fine. Doubt you’ll be able to escape Worcester on the 26th though.
Having a beer on a TGV rn
ABV?
omg, the dream
I went to Amsterdam by train once, and we travelled on the Thalys - the bar on there was epic, sat drinking a Duvel while speeding through Belgium was mega. (I can’t remember why we changed as apparently you can get the Eurostar the whole distance, think it was a price thing)
Eurostar have only.been going direct to Amsterdam since 2018 iirc, so you’d have to have changed onto a Thalys before that
That would explain it then! It’s way back in the mists of memory, back when I actually did stuff!
Superb!
Good memories of taking 15 month old MiniWza to the kids sorting office and play village bit.
If you’ve not had the pleasure, definitely worth procuring a young child as an excuse to get in.
Question on the upcoming RMT strikes -
Which bits of the services do they cover? What is going to be the impact?
I’m supposed to be travelling south on the 11th and then back on the 13th. I’m trying to work out if I can actually still do this - if services will be running albeit heavily limited/disrupted, or just nothing at all (as has been the case on a lot of the strike days)
In theory this is a work thing but it’s also my only real chance to see my immediate family before Christmas,so I’m happy to travel if I’m just going to be inconvenienced. But there’ve been so many recently from varying combinations of unions so I don’t know what to expect / if to try and plan for something else.
It includes signallers, so I suspect it’s fair to assume it’s going to be a near complete network shutdown.
Thanks, that’s really helpful.
The main routes have been open between 0700-1900 or something like that - mainly to facilitate freight, but with a limited passenger service operating.
What journey are you making?
I’m booked onto an early evening (6:18 or something) London to Newcastle train. So leaving within but travelling outside of that window!
LNER haven’t formally cancelled it yet but they’re not (obviously) still selling tickets.
Newcastle station has just been closed on a lot of the recent strikes days as well.
