I don’t mind the new Community homepage.

After several days consideration, I think it’s certainly worse and not an improvement in any way really? Can’t say I’m that fussed about it as only a minor inconvenience, but the landing page feels completely useless to me now. All the font is so small, I just open both the Music and Social boards in separate tabs and then start browsing, whereas before I could look at it all on one page (though admittedly it never seemed to bring up the very latest posts and you’d still have to click through).

@sean it doesn’t seem to deal well with threads that start with Emojis

Hi - apologies for the thread hijack but I’m new on this board and I can’t see any way to create a new post. Neither can I message the admins/mods. All I can do is reply to an existing thread.
The DIS contact page is broken too …

Any clue?

Hey there,

New users normally can’t start new topics until they’ve been through a few new starter things (replied to x posts etc).

I’ve just booted your level past new user so you can use your newfound power to start posts - use it wisely

As for the DiS contact page - on here, or on the main site?

Ah great - many thanks. That restriction isn’t mentioned in the welcome note or FAQ or anything else I could find!
The contact page was http://drownedinsound.com/contact and I used the mod link near the bottom of the page. I tried to send a note to TheoGB, which prompted me to login and then returned error 403.

Gotchya, thanks - that does need updating!

@sean, when you or your editors get a chance, the community contact bit at the bottom of http://drownedinsound.com/contact needs an update to point to @ moderators and @ admin. Obviously not top of your todo pile, but flagging so you’re aware

any update on making the homepage not shite again, as per the poll above? @sean?

reckon the new layout only discourages Social board purists from looking anywhere near the Music board even more now tbh

The what board?

I have pivoted back.

Can’t decide whether to have latest topics or top topics (for less regular folks)

cheers @sean! :+1:

latest topics would seem a better all rounder to me. top topics could end up being popular threads from 2 years ago i’d imagine?

Um, actually @Sean you’ll need to update that to point directly to the forum. It also points to the old Community area as well as mentioning me (via my old username) so it is a hole.

@mr-b I think you SHOULD have got personal message when you signed up, a green circle up on your user icon in top right, which is a welcome message.

However, looking through this I can see it links here

which doesn’t say anything about this and here

Which doesn’t imply you can’t post.

@admins you might want to investigate to see if the auto email can be updated. Also I’m not sure if we actually updated the limitations mentioned here

Admins can change these limitations by searching for newuser and first_day in site settings.

I think it’s important to keep the ‘no posts’ thing so it may be that trust levels have evolved since then, otherwise Discourse is misrepresenting standard new user settings on that page.

Thanks for the mention! I or @wewerewerewolvesonce will look into this tomorrow or asap.

PS: How good did that feel, Theo, to just tag someone else rather than having to deal with it yourself?

Cool, cheers. Although not sure it’s an ASAP issue TBH!

“As soon as possible” can mean a lot of different things tbh – especially with an “or…” in front of it!

Yup the Welcome note just links off onto Discourse which threw me a bit. It’d be a bit more of a “welcome” to have a note about DiS (and any posting restrictions) rather than just slope straight off onto info about some forum s/w, which you’d have to do a bit of deduction to realise.
