Trump 2018 - Road to Midterms/Nuclear War

So… re-election is pretty much a shoe-in then? We’re stuck with this clown for another 6 years? Even if he’s impeached, we’ve got Pence? :pensive:

Still impossible to predict. There remains the outside possibility he’ll stand down voluntarily, whether to evade Meuller, poor mental health, getting bored with it, or combination of the above.

A lot obviously depends on the Democrats and the candidate they choose. They need to pick a reformer who would immediately get to work fixing America’s abject political system to enfranchise millions more voters by working against gerrymandering, giving Peurto Rico statehood, all of the shit that that article floating around up there suggests, basically wield power like the Republicans do. It wouldn’t even have to be a Bernie type, just somebody who recognises that it’s a rigged game that no longer works for a majority of Americans, and can talk persuasively about it.

Everything suggests they’ve learned nothing from 2016 and will instead run under the promise of returning norms and decency to politics with someone like Joe Biden.

So trump is a socialist revolutionary?

Sound

I would love to believe that accelerationism was going into end in socialist revolution

what we need is some solid trot LOGIC:

Thought that it the theory was go mentally neo capitalist to the point that it opens everyone’s eyes to the sham that is capitalism and people rise up.

Going to admit to spending far too much time thinking about accelerationism not so much in terms of praxis but more as a method of analyzing the current socioeconomic moment.

At this point in time there’s about three main schools, Right Accelerationism, largely popularized by the reactionary grandpa Nick Land which saw exacerbating the tendencies of capital as a way of realizing the technological singularity.

Left Accelerationism is more along the lines of what you’ve described, Cybersyn style economic planning, UBI or its equivalent and full automation and Unconditional Accelerationism which as far as I can tell, literally seems just suggest that capitalism has advanced past the point where we can do anything about it.

This sort of sums it up:

but do they think anything good will come of this? or is it more like a weird kind of nihilism? “we’re past the point of no return, we may as well double down”. cos if so it seems to me unconditional accelerationism is standard capitalism.

The short answer to this is no and yes it could be described as a sort of nihilism.

The slightly longer answer is I think they seem to think certain technologies, systems and trends that have arisen are a result of intensifying capital and I guess they see much of what they’re analyzing as mapping these trends.

The problem is I actually think, in a similar sense to Fisher much of what we’re seeing really market fetishism rather than actual technological breakthroughs.

fisher really helped me understand so much, speaking as someone w/o a uni education. it was like i could see the matrix code once i’d digested his writing :grinning:

i do think unconditional accelerationism is informing much of the current thinking in circles of power, however. i don’t think it’s as fringe as people might believe. like upthread^ i shared that link about how the trump admin know climate change is real, but they’ve adjusted for it by essentially saying there’s nothing to be done about it, so dive into them coal mines boys. there is a very spooky kind of nihilism/resignation suffusing everything atm, i guess brexit is another example.

that’s a great article you shared btw, just near the end now

I’d agree with this, I don’t really think much of unconditional accelerationism ability to predict the future but one of the few reasons I kind of followed it, and still do I guess is because I do think it says a lot about the mindset surrounding the current moment.

Rosa Janis is great, I’d highly recommend reading her blog, particularly since she seemed to be looking at ways of updating Marx’s ideas about the falling rate of profit and capitalist crisis etc.

so the democrats have basically fucked up this kavanaugh thing completely, and this dipshit is just one of several who are cool with a rapist being on the supreme court. pelosi has said it’s “not her intention” to impeach him, and perez is willing to continue supporting any democrats who vote ye. times like this i wanna take the black pill and join the people who say there is no real difference between the two parties. because mostly they are correct.

this is also a thing joe manchin did

trump probably wouldn’t win, the democrats will probably get 2 moderate republicans for every etc

Manchin is a yes on Cloture, Murkowski a no. Everyone else on party lines. Then again, if Manchin had voted no it would have made so difference so fuck everything.

My last dying ember of hope is that this is a ploy to get that guy to go to his daughter’s wedding, then do an end-run to make it 50-49, but that is just not gonna happen.

Meanwhile the president of the USA just called rape victims Soros-paid actors.
