I think the Republicans, as they are, are toast if Trump loses. This was their wild card, so to speak. A candidate that would attract people who don’t typically vote against a candidate who might put off Democratic voters who usually do. If it doesn’t work, there’s probably no way they can legitimately win an election without a major readjustment and clamber for the middle ground politically. The demographics just don’t add up for them.

I don’t think it was playing a wild card so much as someone bursting in on their poker game, shoving their hand down instead, then fucking the dog.

Clinton winning leaves the problem of a dramatically low faith in the political system unresolved, which is something that affects the Democrats just as badly as the Republicans. I can see a better controlled Ron Paul-type running a similar sort of campaign as Trump and sweeping to victory in four years.
