I actually enjoy Scottish games. Honestly. Watched one recently, St Johnstone v Hibs. Think it was on a Friday night, it finished 1-1, was properly end-to-end, it was pissing down, the stadium was deserted, it was quite heated, and it was just really nice and therapeutic.
There’s a particular thing i like about Scottish commentators and results announcers. They’re much more like old, traditional English broadcasters than the modern ones south of the border. There’s something really soothing and reassuring about a grouchy old Scottish man talking.
Even the pundits are better, once you understand that Chris Sutton (though English, obviously) is Scotland’s version of Robbie Savage, and Michael Stewart’s their sort of Graeme Souness, in that he clearly doesn’t actually like football. Avoid them two and the coverage of Scottish football’s brilliant. The lower down the leagues you go the more watchable it is. There are regularly eight, nine, ten-goal games in the lower leagues with real DIY footage and comms.
