Can get the train to Oban/Mallaig, both of which have ferries out to islands (not sure how frequent they are over christmas period though).

Some of the stops before Oban looked nice, particularly Loch Awe. And Falls of Cruachan.

There’s also a bus to Oban from Glasgow if there’s somewhere not near a train station, it may be on the bus route.
