Was thinking about how hyped I am to see the next season of American Horror Story land, and it occurs to me that I’ve been doggedly loyal to that series, always been excited for the new one, very much a devotee, and beyond that have become quite a serious Ryan Murphy acolyte when it comes to other output.
That’s incredibly rare for me, even gaming franchises don’t tend to cultivate that level of loyalty in me. What about you? What’s kept you resolutely locked in for years?
I still think Rick and Morty is good (if not great) overall.
I do not think this of anything Alien or Predator related, and yet there I am whenever something is released.
several friends are unrelentingly into A/P stuff. I am happy with Alien related but Predator is a bridge en route to a chopper too far.
basic answer but Pokémon. haven’t seen the films for over a decade, but I’ve never really stopped watching the anime as such. I haven’t seen all of it because there’s just so much, so there’s a load of series where I’ve seen every episode, then a few where I’ve seen a bit of them and a couple that I’ve not watched anything of. but I’ve never not been interested in it and probably never gone more than a couple of months without watching at least one episode
and that’s since year 2000, so I’m very dedicated
I think that’s primarily why it sticks tbh, a love of the original stuff was bonding for some very longstanding relationships, so keeping abreast of newer stuff and talking about it is a maintaining social glue.
that’s a proper commitment. wifey has played a game from every Pokemon gen (I can currently hear her on Pokopia in the lounge in fact) but got fatigued by the series.
I’m not sure this is true of anything really for me, which is a bit sad I guess.
I mean I’ve probably been the most consistent enjoyer of the MCU of anyone I know but I think that’s because I was never a huge fan of it in the first place, if that makes sense? I just view it as something reliably above average. Like even at its worst I don’t mind watching it.
I could score an easy win with something like Slow Horses but not sure that really fits the feel of the brief.

Mobile Suit Gundam. Currenty rewatching one timeline which is 213 episodes of mech suit battling, teenage pilot traumatising fun. They keep making it, I’ll keep watching that slop*.
Live action movie is currently being filmed and you know it’ll be terrible but I’ll be there day one in the cinema.
*Most of it is very good, some of the spinoffs are woeful though.

Mentes Criminosas, as it will always be known as in this house, as we started watching it while hungover in Lisbon. In fairness the spin-offs were rubbish, but the reboot has been great fun, in a very ridiculous way.
The closest to this for me is probably Doctor Who, though there have been times where I’ve stepped away from it for a season or two when it really wasn’t doing anything for me. But as and when it revives from its current hiatus, I’ll be back and ready for further possible fun/disappointment.
Oh and though I’ve not thought of it this way before, Alan Partridge is definitely some kind of franchise at this point, and I’m still fully on board with that.

Yeah maybe I’m that for Doctor Who but again, I don’t even really love it’s just that it can be great and whern it is I really enjoy it. I even sat through all of Chibnall’s stuff despite it being mostly irredemable.

Yeah I guess I am a GoT guy: what I hate is when they completely mess with stuff, so basically S4 E10 onwards is basically fan fiction with blocks of stuff where they stay true to the books and pull it off, that is great. But the flip side to my acknowledgement of that is I also think anyone who reckons S8 was shit at a story level is just bonkers and never actually understood the whole point of the series. (Are the characters and directing all over the place? Sure.)
