I’m halfway through the second series and loving it. It is a bit of a slow starter but I’ve genuinely never seen anything like it. I now need to watch with the wikipedia page open in case I get lost and my head feels like it’s going to explode by the end of every episode. Give it till the end of the first series and if it hasn’t grabbed you by then I would probably give it a miss.

Make sure you watch it in German too - I nearly gave up on it because I was watching the awful American dub.

I struggle with shows like this because I feel like I’m supposed to understand what’s happening (same with Twin Peaks) and it makes me feel stupid in the process.

I felt a bit like this while watching S1. I think it’s best to not worry too much about it, as there are so many characters that it’s very difficult to follow who they all are and how they relate to each other from the beginning. It’s only now, after a season and a half, that I feel like it’s mostly clicking into place. In hindsight, i didn’t really have a clue what was going on in the first half of S1.

Managed to find a copy of Ep 4 and O M F G. Hands over the face covering my eyes stuff. Desperate to find Ep 2 + 3 now.

Really want to show my wife the segment about random chairs he found across NYC… She/we have a similar collection of photos from our travels across the world! Hope to turn them into a zine one day.

Finished the first series the other day and whilst it was probably one of my favourite shows I’ve seen in sometime, it somewhat left me in a bit of a mess. Like each episode was just gut punch after gut punch with it’s dreamlike, float-y sequencing before something raw and outright sad would happen.

Cautiously going to attempt the second series later I reckon. Wasn’t sure what to make of the cliffhanger nature of the finale

how cringey is it?

Somewhat but is decent.

I spent a lot of it thinking how could she have been married to that fox nob.

Same. I’ve always loved BP since “because we want to!”

I Hate Suzie is my TV show of 2020. It’s just fantastic.

A bit but its really great. I don’t watch a lot of TV but each episode had me wanting to watch the next one immediately.

Modern Family

seasons 1-2 - very good
seasons 3-5 - pretty good
seasons 6-8 - OK
seasons 9-11 - don’t exist

Yeah, I get what you mean - the whimsical/quirky nature of it jars with the intense emotions at times. But all the separate elements are so good that it works for the most part, whilst being shy of greatness. Will be interested to hear what you think of the second series!

Oh yeah I certainly don’t want to discredit it at all! The quirks certainly balance out the bleakness and the cast is really strong too. Obviously Jim Carrey steals the show but I really loved Catherine Keener and Frank Langella’s performances (Damn I miss the Americans!) - their whole family dynamic is really messed up and they sell it so well.

Will deffo report back on the second series!
