Yea it’s definitely part of this narrative he’s building for himself. Like he’s had an eye on using his life’s drama as a story to be used for his art rather than a real thing with real people.

He turns it into a film at the end doesn’t he too lol.

I think Dawson and Pacey do sometimes have a nice friendship though. Dawson and Jen too. So much of my memory of it is like unending conflict over Joey though. Might do the rewatch too. Last time I rewatched was through horrible megavideo links about ten years ago. There’s a nice scene when they walk through a golf course at night and the sprinklers go off :slightly_smiling_face:

hope there is a thing like the Daria restoration project that restores the original music

The Hijacker Who Vanished: The Mystery of DB Cooper is a straight up 4/5 interesting documentary. It’s on the iPlayer, was on BBC4. I first read about DB Cooper in one of those World’s Greatest Mysteries type books you get in The Works or wherever, was nice to get a more detailed version

The impressive thing is that there are four or five theories and each one is completely compelling but mutually exclusive.

I haven’t ever actually finished Dawsons Creek, I can’t remember why I didn’t finish it when it was originally aired (possibly I was out all the time when it was on) but I did a rewatch a few years ago and just couldn’t be bothered to finish it, think I was halfway through the last series it got so boring and then Dawson and Jen started going out again which was annoying because Jen’s way too good for Dawson and you knew they would break up anyway so it just felt like a pointless sham. I still don’t know who Joeu ended up with, I hope Pacey because they were much cuter together than her and D but also Joey is awful so maybe she should end up with Dawson :joy:

I don’t think it was any of them…

Grand Army had some really strong points in the end; Joey, Dominique and Jayson all had great moments and aspects to their stories, touching on real issues without being too heavy handed or crass. Soundtrack was really good too and it did create a good sense of atmosphere and place

However … Leila was irredeemably awful and annoying, Sid was bland to the point of being invisible, Dom’s story definitely went into poverty porn at points and while Joeys CW: reaction to her rape felt real in how distressed and isolated she became, it also meant the best and most vibrant character on screen was totally taken out of about half the eps, just took out so much energy when she wasnt around as much. The dance scene at the end was incredible in contrast and just made me grin from ear to ear - might watch that on its own now tb

Also, letter typing framing device which bookends the episodes? Absolutely nonsense garbage once you find out it’s Leila doing it. So every episode features the writings of a character who is only doing it as a hoax, which she then receives no comeuppance for?? What a weird amount of import to
Place on something that never mattered in the longterm

Joey ended up with Pacey

We tried to watch the first episode of Dawson’s Creek today out of curiosity, but couldn’t get through it due to it being too genuinely hateful.

I watched it for the first time last week, surprising amount of Chumbawamba, otherwise no desire to watch another

Utopia cancelled after one season.

Talk about a cursed show

Did you like it? I stopped after 2 episodes. Way too nasty for me

Did you watch the channel 4 version ?

About 4 episodes I think. Seemed better but I had to take a break after a particularly nasty scene and never felt the urge to come back to it

The same scene that was earlier in the American version with the eye?

No. That was horrible but had a ‘good’ resolution. You know the young girl the kid befriends? When her mum gets killed The earlier scene in the school was horrible too and had me a bit on edge

Can’t help but feel Utopia (in particular the C4 version) should just be completed as an actual graphic novel. Tie that actual concept into the plot, heightening the level of meta and jobs a good un.
