One of my stray thoughts about ep. 16 cause I enjoy typing in a rambly way and hope someone enjoys reading it

A few people on another forum (and there was a Polygon article about it) have been comparing this season to old '90s adventure games. It’s a weird comparison, but one that kind of resonates in a way I can’t quite explain (I sometimes think it’s felt like Final Fantasy VII in terms of the slow-burn mystery and the weird moments of humour). On this note, the opening scene of this episode - with Richard’s death at that hillside - reminded a lot of this bit from Sam & Max Hit The Roadhttps://youtu.be/ICyZRUlsK4Q?t=5m49s. The eerie mystery, the strange goings-on under an atmospheric night-sky, a big bloody rock… probably the most significant thing about this comparison though is the fact that it reminded me of the wonder you can feel (and that you tend to feel more as a child than as you get older) watching a story unfold, and seeing pieces falling into place. Brills skills, that.

I think he’d probably hate the literalness of a scene depicted split-screen like that, but I don’t think he’d be above something more subtle version.

Fair enough.

I do wonder if we all (especially myself) are overthinking a lot of the scenes though, that some of it is there simply because Lynch thought it would look cool. I’ve seen it pointed out that he has used imagery in the show taken from his previous artwork which has literally no connection to Twin Peaks (or does it?).

eg Sarah’s face opening used the bottom right image from this painting

Diane’s Black lodge scene seemed to borrow heavily from this short film

Does seem a little but like Lynch hasnt worked for 10 years so he’s shoehorned in a bunch of his ideas which arent really much to do with twin peaks tbh.

Sorry, tried to spoiler blur all that but evidently didn’t work

Yeah, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing for me as I enjoy his flair for visual effects and sound design, but it also means we are all probably overthinking the meaning behind them.

So is the real Diane an amiable non-smoker?

I enjoy his shorts and experimental stuff, was a subscriber to lynch.com back in the day but a lot of it feels very incongruous with twin peaks for me.

the dianne storyline was weird, thought there would surely be more to it than her being a baddie but they pretty much hinted it early in and then it turned out she was, bit basic Lynch

been reading theories today

NAIDO=DIANE (with an O without an E)
LINDA=DIANE (with an L without an E)
CANDIE=DIANE (with a C)

surplus letters spell COLE (with an extra E)
who has an extra E JAYNEY-E

well I’m convinced

Prediction for the final scene

Cut to Leo Johnson, still trapped under the box of spiders. THE END.

Ending: coop and the boys make a final journey to owl cave. Standing in front of the glyph, the giant owl appears again and they all jump into the air fists raised and the frame freezes.

I enjoyed the 3 eps I watched last night
