In all the discussions on splitting the thread I think this is the key one. We really need somewhere where the people currently directly involved and affected by this can get that off their chests And receive support and it needs to be somewhere other than where people are comparing their research on geopolitics and warfare.
The Neil Oliver clip from GB News is really something
I’ll be honest, I don’t know what is happening in Ukraine. I don’t understand it either. I ignore most of the mainstream media because I don’t trust it…
Tbh, divorced of any other context, I’d be happy to stand behind that quote as well.
This feels like a sneering dismissal of people who simply want to analyse or learn more about this subject, express an opinion, and discuss it with others. We are all directly affected by this, in case that isn’t clear from the sheer number of pieces linked in this thread demonstrating the catastrophic knock on effects this war is having and could potentially have. It isn’t just nuclear threat either - Families are facing homelessness in Birmingham and Rochdale as a consequence of the economic shocks caused by this war and the brinkmanship surrounding it.
I think you’re reading more into what CF said than is there, tbf. I certainly didn’t read it as sneering or dismissive, and that’s not generally their style, I don’t think?
I’ve stepped back from posting a few articles I thought people might be interested in or asking a few questions of the forum just because I was reticent about whether the tone/tenor would be appropriate for the thread. I think that’s more the sort of thing being considered.
Like this post because that was my reading too - just wanted to clarify that I didn’t mean it as a pile in on @Irritable though, just in case it looks like that.
Think there’s place for both types of chat but separate threads probably makes sense
Just anecdotally, I work with quite a few Eastern Europeans of various backgrounds and nationalities.
The 2 ethnic Russians are typically really pro Putin, I suppose if you were to equivocate, it’s a bit similar to “Boris is such a madlad, lol” types you get in the uk.
This however has made them think again and they’ve actually apologised to other acquaintances on behalf of Russia.
The other guys, from different Baltic states, are not so much angry, mostly just terrified of the nukes.
But isn’t. So please take it as it was intended.
Yes I was out of line. Totally misread the tone. Bowing out for a bit.
@colinfirth Sincere apologies.
yday i nearly snapped at about five posts in this thread, for no reason. my head is totally fucking melted from all of this and i suspect i’m more worried about it all than i’d even realised.
hope you’re alright man. def appreciate your presence here so if you feel able to come back and post in this thread that’s ace but totally get it if not x
We are all effected by this but there is organising and speculation and they are very different things. As you see I dabble in both and I think thats fine. But scrolling through 30/40 comments of speculation to find a reliable charity or to find someone on the ground isnt useful. No problem with both but why not have two threads.
This fucking media scrummage calling us to do more is actually freaking me out and I don’t really get freaked out by stuff like this.
It’s not just coming from the hawk side either
Its largely just the media. Its this rot brain that thinks decisions should be made on how things should be not how they are.
Is it worth tweaking the title on this thread to differentiate? Not got a clue what to change it to…
Yes but we’re also ran by absolute fucking clowns who are shit scared of the media.
Thankfully, Johnson seemed to be striking an admirably pacifistic tone, which is something of a relief.
there’s a shrill shriek from a lot of the centre and right that feels totally bizarre. 90% sure kirsty allsop will end up calling for nerve agents to be deployed in the next couple days
