Ukraine-Russia Crisis Thread

I know that the one year anniversary is the full on invasion, but this war has been going on for years. I was in Kiev back in 2015, the summer after the Maidan Revolution, the overthrow of the Putin backed Viktor Yanukovychand, and troops were in the city on mass, spending time with their families before being posted out to fight in the east.

According to wiki this war has been going on for 9 years. Sounds about right.

Who are the other people (apart from Corbyn and Waters)?

Don’t know. I feel like I’ve seen the guy on the far left before but not sure.

Corbyn?

Pretty sure @Tiergarten is aware of this.

I’m sure he is but you’ll be surprised/maybe you aren’t surprised by the amount of people who don’t.

Yeah, the common Ukrainian consensus is that they now count the war as starting on the day the first “little green men” landed in Crimea, if not the day the Berkut stormed Maidan. Remember those days in minute detail too.

Was in Berlin for the last few days. Strange irony of hosting a forum on Ukraine’s future in a building known as Café Moskau, renaming it Café Kyiv for the occasion and then reverting to type.

FO here increasingly expecting another escalation for the sake of showing dominance on putin’s part. Struggling to imagine what that could be, it won’t be nuclear and I’d be pretty fucking surprised if it was chemical

Dunno what else he can do really until he sorts out some sort of lend/lease program with Xi. They’ve used up almost all of their cruise missiles and Iranian drones on the energy infrastructure attacks and this much hyped winter offensive’s gone nowhere, they still haven’t taken Bakhmut.

Maybe he’ll just sack another dozen generals.

For anyone who hasn’t yet seen this insightful Storyville documentary that highlights the pro-war and anti-war voices within Russia:

Interesting look at what the battle for Bakhmut means strategically, and how damning the inability to surround it is for Russia’s military

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer cancerous mash of hate

I am also very worried about an imminent Ukrainian invasion of Russia…

(Very silly people who think they’re living in their a-level history textbook)

They are edging up to a semi-confession? Confusing.
