UNCUT 500 Greatest Albums of the 2000s magazine

Anybody got this yet? Love this kind of thing. Two major gripes. No Klaxons ‘Myths Of Near Future’ and N Dubz have been included somehow…

Wasnt expecting this to be a gripe

Got it but not opened it yet. It’s usually a decent read and somehow my sub only costs 16 for every 6 months??

One of my favourite albums of that decade. If I was to compile my own list it would definitely be top 20. Yes they were part of a ‘scene’ but who cares? There’s some very surprising selections in there, like the second Gossip album for example.

I’ve bought the whole series since the 60s. I’m
a sucker for a list and it’s a good way of discovering something new.

what’s the top ten?

10 Primal Scream - XTRMNTR

9 Amy Winehouse - Back to Black

8 Sufjan Stevens - Illinois

7 Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

6 Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

5 Portishead - Third

4 Radiohead - Kid A

3 The Strokes - Is This It

2 Radiohead - In Rainbows

1 LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

Interesting how it’s changed since the one they did in 2009: Uncut’s Albums of 2000s by Uncut : Best Ever Albums

I also wondered if Arcade Fire would feature after recent incidents but they’re there. Ryan Adams too. I think ‘Funeral’ may have been a little higher if it wasn’t for current controversies.

  1. Yo La Tengo - And then nothing…
  2. Pj Harvey - Stories From…
  3. Fleet Foxes - S/T
  4. Arcade Fire - Funeral
  5. Flaming Lips - Yoshimi
  6. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever…
  7. Bob Dylan - Modern Times
  8. Joanna Newsom - Ys
  9. White Stripes - Elephant
  10. Streets - Original Pirate Material

This is a very solid if uninspiring top 10.

Yeah I think it ways more about how uncut have changed if anything. In the 00s they are very much the boomer music mag.

fascinating how revered Smile by Brian Wilson was at the time, barely gets a mention these days (or maybe i’m not on the right part of the internet anymore)

Just looked it up and they’ve only gone and put Bob Dylan on the cover :joy::skull:

They actually seem ok in the monthly for new release coverage but yeah, the features are very boomer tastic.

How white stripes and flaming lips still command so much critical weight I’ll never know

Yeah, when I think of the 00s he’s definitely the image that springs to mind :joy:

lol funny wind up m8 :joy:

There was a degree of disbelief that anything approaching a “complete” SMiLE would ever be released, so the fact that this came out and was… actually pretty great? Meant that it was pretty much given universal 5 star reviews.

It is pretty great, tbf.
