I saw that in TG Jones (yes, we’ve still got one) at the weekend and thought it was a pretty sweet mix. There seems to be a bit of interest in post-punk amongst the youngsters out there at the moment I think. But then, when has there not been (like when I was a youngster out there)
It may be unfashionable, but Uncut is still a seriously good magazine in my opinion. The middle-aged-bloke predictability of the covers – Dylan, Stones, Beatles, Young, repeat – really isn’t a reflection of how eclectic and esoteric some of the music writing is on its pages. It’s gets closer to Quietus/The Wire territory than you’d expect, while also digging out lots of wonderful old soul, prog and kraut-y stuff. And the cover CDs are great.
I grew up in a town too small to stock CMJ so a trip to the UK when I was 13 was my introduction music mags with bundled music, which felt revolutionary.
Bought a Select issue with this tape and wore it out. My introduction to Beth Orton, Afghan Whigs and The Divine Comedy.
