glad more people here are seeing through the frankly paper thin veneer of friendliness on witches’ part tbh.

I mean, there’s supernatural god things in the first series.

oh right, so not like unbelievable-plot stupid just have-to-buy-into-the-rules-of-the-universe stupid?

yeah. they try to intertwine a lot of stuff from the sagas alongside the historically accurate shit (there’s not a great deal of that tbh anyway), but its still really enjoyable.

Love studying the Irish Annals in college. From about 800AD the Vikings start cropping up as “the heathens”, travelling around the country and fucking shit up.

I have not seen ‘Vikings’ but a Swedish actor friend of mine auditioned for a role in it and asked me to help coach him with the script he’d been sent. They wanted him to shoot some test scenes so did a little 5 man crew shoot in an old massive cellar under the Swedish castle which was where they kept the lions under the old castle before it burned down and they built the new one

Anyway, he sent of his ‘tape’ and went over to the US for his final audition & never got the part. Then his agent found out that some Russian company was planning a mega-blockbuster Viking movie so he sent the tape to Russia & got the part in ‘Viking’ instead.

It is a very stupid film

Celtic lore >>>> Viking lore obviously though

I’ve never looked much into the mythology of either, given that both descriptors are essentially incorrect and there isn’t a homogeneous belief system for each culture. With archaeology I focused mostly on what we could find in the ground, not on the mythological aspects.

Sorry, I just vomited words out there.

the region of Spain where my dad is from have been trying to join the celtic league of nations or something for ages, its hilarious.

Nah it makes sense, there was a large diaspora of customs and folklore, even languages, there was a fair amount of movement later on which I guess gave it more sense to group them together but yeah I was just being all boo vikings for lols.
