Which records have you bought or otherwise acquired (gift, inheritance, lucky skip find etc)? Show us your vinyl acquisitions (and remember, the plural of vinyl is vinyl ).
Shizuka - “Paradise of Delusion”
This album came from Monorail today. Such a beautiful package with a press release style info sheet, postcards and picture insert. I’ve included a photo of the info sheet if you want to know more.
I first heard about her/them via Volcanic Tongue several years ago but could never track down any CDs although I found some music on a blog. This is the first physical album I have.
Good idea for a rolling thread, will definitely use it. In the meantime, I tend to use my Instagram for rolling vinyl purchases (mostly used/older things I’ve found or tracked down, as well as records with design I love)
Paul Quinn - Boxset (Postcard Records)
Contains reissues of PQ & the Independent Group’s “The Phantoms & the Archetypes” and “Will I Ever Be Inside of You?” along with a double LP of live recordings/rarities and a 10” single. There is also a hardback book featuring photos and press cuttings as well as 2 prints. It’s a beautiful thing, and well worth the money (£125) given the quality and care they put into the package.
Timely. Just received my RSD Tangerine Dream - The Keep.
Also picked up the bottom two from a very nearby charity shop for £1:99 each whilst popping out to buy milk.
Currently on a vinyl self-ban cos we’re moving in a few months and, aside from needing the money, it’s just more stuff to move, isn’t it
This was one of the last orders I got in, from Specialist Subject in Bristol - if you don’t follow their Instagram do, they post these restocks on their stories which is just someone flipping through huge piles of records, I find them super calming to watch. Also led to me buying both of these…
The Van Pelt - Stealing From Our Favourite Thieves
Mid 90s US indie rock classic, absolutely full of bangers. I discovered this maybe ten/fifteen years ago, absolutely loved it, but it was super out off print and CDs would go for £100 regularly on eBay. This is a reissue from their reunion tour around 2014ish (when they were supposed to play ATP Jabberwocky), which in had absolutely no idea had happened until i saw it on SS’ insta. So I had to, didn’t I? Owed it to mid-20s me, endlessly playing this off some mp3s he got from a livejournal group.
Trust Fund - Seems Unfair
One of my fav records of the 10s. Assumed it was out of print but nope, right there in their stories. Comes with a cd rather than a download?? Ok then. Saw them at Indietracks one year and they absolutely smashed it, remember drunkenly telling everyone it was absolutely 1994 Weezer-good. Would probably stand by that.
Records are great.
Nice thread idea. It’s the Reading record fair this weekend (biggest one in the UK outside of the big one at London Olympia … apparently) so I’ve been on a self-imposed purchasing ban for a few weeks in the hope it’s going to be decent. Last I purchased were around RSD - Dirty Three Ocean Songs (a bit steep so wasn’t going to bother but found a signed copy by Warren at Resident so went for it). And a couple of Rocket Recordings compilations which had the labels artists remixing each other).
Nice thread. Maybe include CDs and tapes if people feel so inclined?
Last record I bought was Fantas Variations by Caterina Barbieri
No inserts and plain inner sleeves but it does have appropriately prog adjacent gatefold artwork.
People can show off cd & tape acquisitions if they want. 8-track, mini-disc and other physical format musical acquisitions also welcomed.
I also tend to use Instagram for vinyl pics (instagram.com/biomech68) but I will try and remember to add here too.
I got a package from Norman earlier, the 20th anniversary repress of The Shins’ Oh Inverted World. I’ll get some pics later.
A couple of recents -
I picked up the new Go! Team at the weekend
and a long delayed order from Russia, ordered in December last year. We pre-orderers did get a sheet of special thanks for waiting
Love this album SO MUCH
I would argue there is no plural of vinyl, nor is there a singular, as it’s a mass noun.
As long as we’re avoiding the word vinyls.
I think I lust after a Technics turntable the same way some middle aged blokes want a Porsche or whatever. Maybe one day
Just finished a payday/birthday record spree day out in Leeds with a rough budget of £100, picked up:
Andy Stott - Never the Right Time
Darkside - Spiral
Hildegard - Hildegard
Erika de Casier - Sensational
White Flowers - Day By Day
Most of these from the best record shop in the world, Norman Records
