BSM order finally rocked up. Not bad for Ā£21 delivered. Really like those Oceanator records and whilst Havasu isn’t Phoenix, Control or The Only Reason I Feel Secure, it’s a good record.

Day off on Thursday and managed to buy 7 records :grimacing:

Saw online that First Press had some second hand 2010s local-ish stuff in for some great prices so went round to check it out, apparently a lot of stuff given in by a local musician / former Girls Names member. Had the whole Sea Pinks back catalogue in but the rarer early ones that I don’t have were over Ā£30 so didn’t go for any of those, but grabbed the below:

Former Bullies were I think a Manchester band? But these two albums were released on Sea Pinks singer’s Belfast based label for whatever reason. I remember really liking the album on the right, particularly the song Black Cloud, but it’s no longer on streaming annoyingly and the label Bandcamp is now gone - album on the left is on streaming but haven’t heard it in years. Ā£4 each! What a bargain.

I already own the September Girls and Cian Nugent albums here on CD but Ā£5 and Ā£6 respectively for the vinyl was irresistable. Slow Riot were a Limerick band who I saw supporting Mission of Burma a decade ago, the label here refers to post-rock and Godspeed as the band name would suggest but I remember them as more gloomy post-punk albeit with some big cavernous guitars. The single I liked (Trophy Wife) isn’t on this EP though, can’t remember if I’ve listened to this. Ā£2 though!

Had hoped to pick up the first Aoife Nessa Frances for a mere £8 as well but it had been set aside for someone who had already bought it online (again I already own the CD though).

Then went round the corner to Sound Advice and got these for good prices albeit they don’t feel as cheap compared to the above

Ā£14 for Cassandra Jenkins on pink transparent vinyl and I only noticed after getting it home that it’s still sealed and all. Had never heard this Grizzly Bear album and have always found their other albums a bit hit and miss but took a punt for Ā£13 and I enjoyed giving it a listen today, leans heavily into their weirder side which is a good thing. It’s also on nice black and transparent splatter vinyl which I hadn’t realised at the time.

Also threw in a Ā£3 Dylan CD which I later realised she didn’t charge me for (see the CD purchase thread). Was also very tempted to grab Nick Cave’s Push the Sky Away LP for Ā£13 but given Nick keeps being an arse and saying stupid things recently I was too worried about being judged by the cool owner. Maybe I’ll get it another time if no one else buys it.

That Cassandra Jenkins album is wonderful imo

The Grizzly Bear one is mostly a solo record i think

my old housemate’s ex’s band. they stayed at ours once when they were touring with Nine Black Alps, so that dates them

I think I saw them when my friend put on Sea Pinks in Leeds while I was visiting about 10 years ago, through from memory I think it ended up being a solo show from the singer

can’t even remember which one of them it was she went out with tbh :grinning:

Did you get an email when your order was despatched? I’ve not had anything yet and still waiting…

Yes I did tbf. However, I emailed BSM on Wednesday last week enquiring about. To which I got this

Not sure who handles their packing and shipping then. Anyway, that was the 1st and it shipped on the 3rd, arrived yesterday.

So might be worth a prompting email asking what’s going on.

some good markdown scores in my visit to Christchurch, NZ

Ritual Howls - Into the Water - nice doomy post punk

Mourn - s/t and Sopresa Familia - Spanish punk rock that nobody else seems to listen to

Codeine - The White Birch - I’m guessing it’s on sale because these pressings got such bad feedback

Romeo Void - catchy post punk from the 80s with sax, it’s a shame this band never got big.

Man, I wish they’d done the full sleeve artwork for the Pattern Gardening comp from last year. That PPP art is fine but how come that gets blown up to full size but the comps don’t?

That Mourn album is great, only one of theirs I’ve heard. Never owned it on vinyl myself but liked it enough that I bought it for a friend’s birthday once.

yeah, I remember being a bit deflated with the sleeve and artwork for the compilation. It’s a great picture feel like they could have done more with it.

Having a good time listening to Danzig II today, so thanks for that
