Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Magnesium and a multivitamin with Iron. Can’t remember why I take most of them or what they are for tbh.

This has concerned me slightly…

I got turned down because of my weird hard to find veins, I was so sad! Keep meaning to try again, hopefully soon

I would definitely get turned away due to low iron but I can’t take supplements as they wrecked my stomach.

It should tbh. Supplements aren’t very well regulated I believe, and we’re led to think that they’re all good for us when a lot of them have no benefit and some can be actively harmful.

Might be worth doing some research into the ones you’re taking to get an idea of if they’re ones you’ve got a reason to think you might be low on. Vitamin C for example, a lot of people don’t realise that potatoes are fairly high in it and most people eat plenty of those.

I bought some vitamin D liquid last year as I’ve not been going outside but I haven’t tried it yet as I’m too worried about damaging my stomach, which reacts badly to a lot of stuff.

I have tried vitamin D enriched mushrooms though and they were fine and tasted exactly the same as normal mushrooms, would recommend. They’ve been exposed to UV light, which makes them produce vitamin D like our skin does. You can get the same effect by leaving mushrooms in the sun (presumably outside and not through glass?).

having extensively googled and that there appears to be no correlation but i’ve had a bit of a mixed experience with vitamins so far.

about three months ago i had a health scare and got well onto the vitamins bandwagon (i am feel, who aggressively advertised to me on instagram or somewhere and i was like shut up and take my money).

since that time i also developed a really annoying eye floater (regular readers of dis will probs have seen my thread on this). having effectively ruled out retinal detachment, i started doing a bit of thinking about what i’d done differently in my life since i started experiencing it (bit like you do with skin complaints when you start a new washing powder).

the only thing i could think of was taking vitamins, and i mean, i really was on the bandwagon. i was taking:

multivitamin (vitamin a, vitamin b1, b2, niacin, pantothenic acid, b6, b12, c, d3, e, k2, folic acid, biotin, calcium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, iodine, selenium, zinc my fingers hurt from typing)
and some other supplements too designed to help with immune system and brain health

  • milk thistle
  • choline inositol
    +cod liver oil

about a week ago i stopped taking the lot and it appears my floater has also diminished. it is still there, but is far far less annoying than it was before. google tells me vitamins have no impact on floaters though so shrug

also, if i took the whole lot together they made me sick as a dog.

so…er…mixed bag.

Well I was taking a multi-vit a day due to me eating very little fruit/veggies but having seen @froglet’s comment and doing a quick bit of googling I am going to knock it on the head I think :grimacing:

One multivitamin with iron every day. I started taking them because who knows if part of the reason for my rampant blood pressure was vitamin related. Probably isn’t, and my diet probably has the lot anyway, but it’s not going to harm is it?

Vitamin D and Iron everyday. No idea if they do me any good or not tbh. The iron is to make me feel less tired and I’m bloody knackered constantly so :woman_shrugging:

Beetroot extract
Multivitamins
Electrolytes

Probably OD’ing on too many but also probably pissing 99% of them all out within 5 minutes and assimilating NOTHING

I don’t take any apart from what’s in food, etc.

I have been considering starting taking Vitamin D over the winter due to the lovely climate here in the UK. Have those of you who are already regularly taking it noticed an improvement in how you feel as a result?

Oh, I also gave one or two Huels a day. Huel Black Edition contains 50% less carbs, 33% more protein, zero artificial sweeteners, and is naturally gluten-free. And still contains all 26 essential vitamins and minerals, essential fats, fibre, and phytonutrients.

That’s what we’ve all been led to believe, but some studies have shown increased mortality associated with some supplements. Eg here is an article that mentions a slightly increased lung cancer risk for a couple of different vitamins under certain conditions.

We shouldn’t just assume that a supplement is good for us just because it’s on the shelf, because there’s not really much oversight. Not saying they’re all bad for us, because some are recommended for some people, but I think it’s worth being a bit cautious and reading up on whatever is in anything you’re planning to take.
