I’m thinking of going but as I don’t know Southampton (only ever been fleetingly to the centre), welcome any reco’s/advice regarding the festival itself (I understand there was one this year) and the area.
I see it’s at the legendary Joiners and two other venues I’m not au fait with so assume they’re in close proximity?
What’s St Mary’s like, is there anything interesting or quirky there?

It’s spread across Joiners, Heartbreakers and the 1865 which are all within about a ten minutes walk of each other and pretty much in the city centre. Heartbreakers is also an excellent cocktail bar, you’ve got loads of food and pub options nearby - about 20 minutes away is Overdraft for beer and tacos, Belgium And Blues for Belgian style food and beer, loads of chain restaurants or Cafe Thrive for good vegan options. The only good spot in St Mary’s is probably the Unity tap room but I’ve not been since it was taken over by new owners so can’t comment on how good it is now. Nice parks to walk through in the centre, Titanic museum if that’s your jam, the John Hansard Gallery- a pretty great little art gallery with a fairly regular change of installations.

Last time I was in Southampton was 2009 just for a few hours and I have to say my main memory was that (like Bournemouth) there seemed to be alot of chain bars and restaurants and not much of the ‘alternative’ stuff you might expect to find in a city (albeit a small one) with a student population.
Of course this was a very long time ago - I expect it’s changed alot since then - as so many other places have - and I wasn’t there for long.
