I feel like I am woefully under prepared for winter every year.
Looking for advice for recommendations for anything from head via hands to feet.
a good warm coat that looks good and keeps the rain off
something for my hands that will help with Raynaud’s
stuff for cycling (I don’t do this currently and not having the wet / cold weather gear is part of that)
shoes / boots?
underlayers
Part of the trouble is I don’t buy new clothes (excptions for underwear, socks and some footwaear) so I need a broad shopping list options I can use to scour ebay, vinted etc…
Ive always gone for layers for this one tbh… a waterproof/cagoule can be used summer/winter then bung a jumper, fleece or puffa jacket on for changing temperatures.
are you cycling for exercise (ie getting quite sweaty) or for transport (might get less sweaty)? if the latter you can get away with a regular raincoat. also: mudguards.
Transport only - I’m a long way off doing it for exercise!
The cold seems to penetrate into my hands regardless of the glove situation. And a lot of waterproof trousers seem too bulky to cycle with - do I just need to get over it?
they are very ££ but you can get these things called pogies which supposedly keep your hands very toasty while cycling: Cycling – HotPog
as for the trousers - yeah. i would say that mudguards keep a lot of water off your lower half, so would urge you to get some fitted - the longer the better. will also help keep your feet dry.
Finally got myself a good quality breathable waterproof after decades of cheap Regatta pac-a-macs and it’s made a real difference. It’s a Rab Downpour Eco
